I always laugh at how many of the people selling Miatas on Cars.com try to pass off a clapped out base model as an M-edition, although I'm not sure if that's ignorance or trickery. This example is particularly hilarious though.

I like how the colour is wrong also.

That's a nice 135 you got there...

On my local classifieds, there's always at least one person who's listed their Z3 M as an M3.

This is like, half of my job as the "content editor" at an ad agency where the majority of the creatives don't know anything about BMW.

Or that their 3 series is a v6 instead of a straight 6

Or their Z3 as a 3 series, we'll probably start seeing z4 as 4 series...

Really? I was under the impression most dealerships create the listings for their used cars.

Where's the disclaimer? "Stock photo, may not represent actual car for sale". I want a 2012 1m now.

Oh yeah, I'm not talking about dealership listings. Just in ad stuff, they have no idea what the previous generation models are vs the new ones. I end up correcting a lot of mistakes like this.

They kind of do but kind of don't. The inventory loads online automatically and then we edit it as needed. When a car first comes into stock and we haven't detailed and photographed it yet the listing software assigns a stock photo of what's SUPPOSED to be a similar model, but sometimes they're really bad.
So basically you have a computer programmer saying "Well, an M3 is based on the 3-series, so we'll have it automatically load the stock photo for the 3-series."
If that dealership is worth a damn they'll have the ad fixed within a day or two.

Ok, that makes more sense. I was picturing some fresh marketing grad selecting this pic from a photo cache. She only took the job to pay down student loans while waiting to land that job in the fashion industry.

I, too, work at an ad agency in the automotive department. I'm literally the only car guy here….
